Cigar Boxes
Cigar boxes hold each cigar in a tray channel cut to your ring gauge and length, because cigars rubbing together damage the wrapper leaf. Premium cigars justify rigid, which the category generally expects. A cedar liner or foil barrier helps maintain humidity, though true humidification needs a separate humidity device. Rigid takes 20 business days from proof approval.

Cigar Packaging Built Around the Tray Channel
A cigar box is designed from the inside out. The channels that hold each cigar are measured first, then the case is sized around them, so the count, the spacing and the shape of the cigar set the dimensions before anyone discusses wraps or foil. That order matters because cigars are sold on condition: a wrapper with a scuff is a cigar a buyer passes over. The buyers are cigar makers, importers and specialist retailers putting together their own selections, plus brands assembling gift sets. Most are buying a box that will be kept, opened and closed over weeks as the cigars are smoked one by one, and that shapes every choice on this page.
Rigid Case, Channel Tray and Liner Specs
Premium cigar boxes are built as a rigid case in wrapped 2–3mm grayboard, with a fitted tray inside.
| Spec | Cigar boxes |
|---|---|
| Case | Grayboard, 2–3mm, paper-wrapped |
| Tray | One channel per cigar |
| Channel size | Cut to your ring gauge and length |
| Liner | Cedar or foil barrier |
| Value lines | Folding carton with the same tray |
| Count | Set to your pack size |
The grayboard is cut, assembled and wrapped rather than printed directly, so the wrap paper carries the color and the case keeps its shape as the lid is lifted and set down again over the life of the box.
Why a Lift-Off Lid Suits a Row of Cigars
Cigars sit side by side in a single layer, so the box opens best from the top, showing the full row at once. A lid over a channeled tray does exactly that: the lid lifts clear, the tray stays put, and each cigar comes out of its channel without disturbing its neighbors. A hinged or drawer build can work for small counts, but a lift-off lid gives the cleanest view of a full box and the least handling of each cigar. Rigid is worth the cost here when the cigars are premium, because buyers expect weight and a solid case. For a value line or a large-volume pack, a folding carton holding the same tray does the job at much lower cost.
Wraps, Foil and Emboss on a Cigar Case
Because a rigid case is wrapped rather than printed, the finish starts with the wrap paper: a printed sheet, a textured or wood-look paper, or a solid color. Foil suits the brand name and a line about origin on the lid. Embossing or debossing adds a mark people feel as well as see, and it holds up to repeated handling. Inside, a cedar liner brings its own look and scent when the lid comes off, so many brands leave the interior unprinted and let the wood do the work. What to skip: heavy decoration on the tray itself, which sits under the cigars and is barely seen, and foil running over the lid edge, where it rubs every time the box opens.
Planning a Cigar Box Order Around 20 Days
Rigid cigar boxes take 20 business days from proof approval, since each case is assembled and wrapped rather than shipped as a flat sheet. Folding cartons for value lines take 8–12. Rush is available on both at an extra cost quoted upfront. Plan the 20 days back from your launch or gifting season rather than from the day artwork is ready. Send your ring gauge, length and count; we build the dieline and tray layout from those and confirm internal measurements in writing. Design help is unlimited and free. Orders start at 100 boxes, shipping is included, the quote covers dies and setup with no hidden costs, and every run passes a three-stage check before it leaves.

What brands say about this box

How do cigar boxes keep each one separated?
With a fitted tray that holds each cigar in its own channel. Cigars left loose rub against each other, which damages the wrapper leaf. The tray is cut to your ring gauge and length.
Can cigar boxes have a humidor liner?
Not a true humidor, but a cedar liner or a foil barrier is common and helps hold humidity. For genuine humidification you'd pair the box with a separate humidity device rather than relying on the packaging.
Do cigar boxes need to be rigid?
For premium cigars, yes. The category expects weight, and a folding box undercuts a product sold on craft. For volume and value lines, a sturdy folding carton works. Rigid takes 20 business days.
What's the lead time on cigar boxes?
Rigid cigar boxes take 20 business days from proof approval, since the board is cut, wrapped and assembled. Folding builds run 8–12. Rush is available on both.
What's the minimum on cigar boxes?
100 boxes. Allow 20 business days for rigid rather than 8–12. Free samples are available on orders above 10,000 units if you want to check the tray against your actual cigars.
