Custom Magnetic Closure Boxes

Custom magnetic closure boxes hide the magnets inside the board, so you feel the snap without seeing the mechanism, and the lid stays shut through handling while still opening easily. They earn their cost where the box is opened repeatedly or kept; for single-use packaging it's money spent on a moment that happens once. Rigid builds take 20 business days from proof approval.

A Rigid Box That Closes With a Snap Instead of a Lid

A magnetic closure box is a single-piece rigid build. The lid is attached along the back edge, folds over the top, and finishes in a flap that drops down the front panel, where magnets set into the flap and the panel meet and hold it shut.

This is the general version of the family, and it's the right starting point if you know you want a hinged, magnet-held box but haven't settled anything more specific. If the deciding factor turns out to be storage space, a black finish, a cover that opens like a book, or a collar under the lid, there is a dedicated build for each. Most buyers here are brands moving up from a folding carton for the first time.

Board, Wrap and Magnet Placement in a Magnetic Build

The structure is built first and dressed afterwards. Board is cut and assembled into base and lid, the magnets go into the board, and only then is the separately printed wrap applied over everything. That order is why a standard magnetic box reaches you already assembled.

Part Detail
Construction Single-piece rigid, lid hinged at the back
Core Grayboard, typically 2–3 mm
Closure Magnets set into flap and front panel, hidden by the wrap
Wrap Printed paper, linen or textured paper
Size Cut to your product's dimensions
Interior Fitted insert shaped to the product

The grayboard core the magnets sit inside is what gives the box its weight in the hand and keeps the lid sitting square.

Choosing a Hinged Magnetic Lid Over a Lift-Off One

The comparison most buyers are making is against a two-piece lid and base. A lift-off lid gives a similar first reveal, but after that it gets separated from its base, set down on a counter, and put back on the wrong way round. A hinged magnetic lid stays attached and returns to the same closed position every time, so after months on a dresser the box still looks the way it did on the day it was bought.

It's why luxury lines where the box is kept tend to specify this build over a separate lid. Where the box is a one-way container headed for the recycling, a lift-off lid or a folding carton does the job for less, and that's the build we'd point you to.

Finishes That Sit Well on a Wrapped Rigid Lid

Because the wrap is printed and finished before it's applied, a magnetic box takes the full rigid range: foil stamping, embossing, debossing, spot UV and soft-touch lamination. Emboss in particular needs the thickness of a rigid core behind it to hold a clean edge, which a folding carton can't offer.

Two limits are specific to the design. The hinge along the back is a fold, so foil or solid ink running across it will crack as the lid is opened again and again. Keep marks on the lid face or the front flap. And the flap edge is where wrap registration shows first, so a border or a line of type running to that edge needs room for a small amount of movement.

Who Reorders Magnetic Closure Boxes

The steady buyers are brands whose box becomes part of what the customer keeps. Skincare and fragrance sets end up on a bathroom shelf with the lid still in use. Watch, pen and accessory brands treat it as the case the product lives in. Subscription and membership programs send one as a welcome kit that holds later deliveries.

Corporate buyers order it for client and staff presents, with a logo on the lid and the gift fitted below, alongside the other keepsake and corporate gift boxes bought for year-end and milestone giving. Tea, chocolate and stationery brands use it to sell a boxed set at a higher price than the loose product. In each case the box is expected to be opened again well after the first day.

From Product Dimensions to an Assembled Magnetic Run

Start by sending the product's dimensions. We build the dieline around them and confirm in writing whether each figure is internal or external, since an insert cut to the wrong one leaves a lid that won't close down onto its magnet.

Design help is free and unlimited, and every round comes back as a proof for you to approve before anything is printed. The quote includes dies, plates and setup, so the figure you approve is the figure you pay, with shipping already in it. Production takes 20 business days from proof approval. Rush is available at an extra cost we state before you commit. Orders start at 100 boxes, which is enough to see the closure on your own product before a larger run.

What brands say about this box

Answers before you have to ask.

How strong is a magnetic closure?

Strong enough to hold the lid closed through handling and transit, without being hard to open. The magnets are concealed inside the board, so you feel the snap without seeing the mechanism.

Can magnetic boxes hold a fitted insert?

Yes, and most should. A magnetic box without a fitted insert feels hollow, which undermines the premium impression the closure was bought for.

Are magnetic boxes worth the cost?

Where the box is opened repeatedly or kept afterwards, yes. The closure is what makes a box feel finished. For single-use packaging it's money spent on a moment that happens once.

What's the turnaround on magnetic closure boxes?

20 business days from proof approval, since rigid board is cut, wrapped and assembled rather than shipped flat. Rush is available at a stated premium.

What's the minimum on magnetic closure boxes?

100 boxes. Allow 20 business days rather than 8–12. Rigid costs more per unit, so the low minimum lets you test whether the closure supports a higher price first.
