Custom Round Boxes

Custom round boxes follow a cylindrical product instead of leaving dead space in a square carton, using less material and holding it considerably more securely. Curved dielines nest less efficiently and forming adds a step, so they cost somewhat more, often offset by the material saved. Windows are possible, kept modest and clear of the seam, where the cylinder gets its strength.

A Short Cylinder With a Lid That Lifts Off

Round boxes and tubes are both cylinders, but they're built for different moments. A round box is short with a lid that lifts away, so the product is revealed from above in one movement. A tube is long and closed at the ends, made to protect something on its way somewhere. This page covers the round box, and the black and white versions in the range are the same build with the color decision already made. Buyers here usually have a product that's already round, such as a candle, a jar or a rolled accessory, or a gift that benefits from feeling unusual in the hand. Most are weighing it against a square rigid box and want to know which suits their product better.

Round Box Specs: Diameter, Height and Lid Fit

Round boxes are built on rigid board that holds a cylinder's shape, or on folding paperboard for lighter products and lower-cost runs.

Attribute Specification
Build Rigid board or folding paperboard
Diameter Cut to your product
Height Cut to your product, short relative to a tube
Lid Lift-off, sized to slide over the base
Wrap Printed paper or plain stock
Insert Optional, cut to hold the product centered

Give us the product's widest point, not its base, since a candle or jar is often wider at the shoulder than at the foot.

Why Candles and Jars Sit Better in a Cylinder

A round product in a square box leaves four empty corners, and something has to fill them. Usually that's an insert, which adds a part to buy and a step to pack. A cylinder removes the problem, because the wall sits close to the product all the way around. That's why jarred and pillar candles are such a natural fit: glass vessels stay centered, and the box mirrors the shape the customer is about to see. There's a shelf effect too: among square cartons, a round box stands out without extra print. The honest limit is storage and freight, because cylinders don't tile, so cases and pallets carry more air. If your product is square, or ships in large volumes, a square carton is the more practical build.

Wrapping Artwork Around a Curve and a Lid Band

Round boxes have three print areas that behave differently. The lid top is a flat circle and takes a logo, crest or pattern the way any flat panel would. The body wrap runs all the way around, so the artwork has no front unless you give it one, and it meets itself at a seam. We set that join at artwork stage so patterns line up and nothing important sits on it. The lid band, the strip of lid that overlaps the body, is a good place for a name or tagline seen from the side on a shelf. Foil, lamination and spot gloss all apply, with foil best kept to the lid top. Repeating patterns are the easiest designs to wrap well.

Round Boxes for Gift Sets, Hats and Keepsakes

Gifting is where round boxes are most at home. Brands use them for bath sets, tea collections and candles sold as presents, because the shape suits keepsake gift presentation and the box is often kept and reused once empty. Milliners use larger rounds for hats, which need wide, deep space that won't crush a brim. Cosmetics brands use small ones for loose powder and balm tins. Pre-roll brands use slim rounds for single products, with child-resistant options available and the panel rules confirmed by the brand itself. Confectioners stack macarons in a column or pack chocolates in rings. Florists use them for preserved roses. In most of these, the box outlives its contents and ends up on a shelf at home.

From a Measured Jar to an Approved Round Proof

Measure the product at its widest and tallest points and send those to us, along with any insert you have in mind. We build the round dieline from them and confirm in writing whether the figures are internal or external, since a small error in diameter grows threefold around the circumference. Design help is free and unlimited, and a proof comes back for approval before anything is made. Timing depends on the build: rigid round boxes take 20 business days from approval, paperboard ones 8–12. Rush is available on either, at an extra cost quoted upfront. Orders start at 100 boxes, shipping is included, and every box passes a three-stage check before it leaves. If bulk doesn't match the approved proof, we reprint at our cost.

What brands say about this box

Answers before you have to ask.

Why choose a round box over a square one?

Because a cylindrical product wastes space in a square carton, and the corners crush first in transit. A round box follows the product, which uses less material and holds it more securely.

Can round boxes have a window?

Yes, though cutting a window into a curve is more complex than into a flat panel. We keep it modest and away from the seam, since that's where the cylinder's strength comes from.

Are round boxes more expensive than square?

Usually somewhat, since curved dielines nest less efficiently on a sheet and the forming process adds a step. The difference is modest and often offset by using less material overall.

How long do custom round boxes take?

Most orders are ready in about 8–12 business days once you approve the proof. Rush production is available at an extra cost, quoted upfront, with shipping included.

What's the minimum order for round boxes?

100 boxes. Round builds suit specific products rather than general use, so the low minimum lets you test whether the format fits your product before committing.
