Custom Gable Boxes
Custom gable boxes have the carry handle cut from the same sheet as the carton, so it folds upward as part of the structure with nothing attached afterward. That also means the board determines what the handle can carry, so we rate the paperboard to your filled weight. Gables use more board than bags, but contents don't get crushed. Every stock, printed to your artwork.

A Handled Carton, and Which Version Fits Your Product
Start with what goes inside, because that decides which gable you need. The style stays the same across the range: a carton with a peaked top that closes into a carry handle. What changes is the stock, the size, and whether the front panel is cut open. A brand that wants a natural look moves toward kraft. Artwork that depends on accurate color points to coated white board. Heavier or bulkier fills need the larger builds, with stronger board and a reinforced handle area. Product that sells on sight gets a window. This page covers the style as a whole, for buyers who are still weighing those options. If you already know your stock or size, the variant pages go further into that one choice.
Gable Board, Handle Cut and Panel Specs
Every gable is cut and creased from one flat sheet, handle included. The stock is your call: kraft paperboard for handled cartons for a natural surface, or coated white board where print quality leads.
| Attribute | Custom gable boxes |
|---|---|
| Style | Peaked top closing into a carry handle |
| Handle | Die-cut from the same sheet as the carton |
| Stock | Kraft or coated white paperboard |
| Board weight | Rated to the filled weight of your product |
| Size | Cut to your product's dimensions, internal unless stated |
| Window | Optional film-backed cut-out on the front panel |
Each handle and window shape needs its own cutting tool, and the glue seam sits on a side panel, never on a display face.
Why a Built-In Handle Beats a Handle Added Later
A handle that arrives as a separate part is a second item to order, store and fit, and a second thing that can come loose between the counter and the customer's door. Cutting the handle into the blank removes all of that. The box closes and the handle is already there, so a packer works with one component instead of two, and stock control tracks one item instead of a box plus fittings. The trade is that the handle shares the board's limits, which is why the stock is chosen against the load rather than the look. That simplicity is why gables turn up across packaged meal and snack ranges, where boxes are filled and handed over in quick succession, as well as in retail and gifting.
Printing Across a Peaked Top and Four Walls
A gable gives you four walls and two angled top panels, and the angled faces are smaller and broken by the handle. Put the main logo and product name on the front and back walls, where the surface is flat and uninterrupted. The top panels suit a repeat pattern or a short line, not detail that has to read clearly. Keep solid color away from the creases, since heavy ink cracks along a score over time. Available on this style: full-color print on coated white board, one or two colors on kraft, lamination on coated stock, a grease-resistant face on either, and inside print where the interior shows. Every window or handle shape also removes printable area, so artwork is checked against the dieline before proofing.
Gables for Party Packs, Favors and Event Handouts
Gables are bought wherever the customer carries the box away by hand rather than in a bag. Event planners use them for party packs and guest favors, sized to a single treat or a small set. Retailers use them at the till for small purchases that would look lost in a carrier bag. Hand-carried gifts and party takeaways are a natural fit, since the handle makes the box easy to pass over and easy to hold. Corporate teams order them for conference giveaways and launch kits, where the printed walls carry the brand while the box travels around a venue. Schools, clubs and charities use them for fairs and fundraisers. Food counters use the same build for carry-out, which has a page of its own.
Ordering a First Gable Run From Product Dimensions
Send us the dimensions of what goes inside and roughly what a filled box weighs. We build the dieline from those numbers and confirm in writing whether each measurement is internal or external, the mix-up that spoils more first runs than any other. If you haven't settled on a stock or a window yet, design help is unlimited and free, and the proof shows the handle, panels and any cut-out before anything is printed. Orders start at 100 boxes. Production takes 8–12 business days from proof approval. Rush costs extra and is quoted upfront. Shipping is included in the price, every box passes a three-stage check, and if the bulk run doesn't match your approved proof, we reprint it at our cost.

What brands say about this box
They live there rather than here, where we can't edit them, delete them, or pick which ones you get to see. That is exactly what makes them worth reading.
Read all reviews on Trustpilot(opens in a new tab)Answers before you have to ask.
How is a gable handle formed?
It's cut from the same sheet as the box, so it folds up as part of the structure rather than being attached. That's why it needs no assembly, and why the board strength determines what it can carry.
Can gable boxes be printed inside?
Yes, though whether it's worth it depends on use. For retail and gifting the interior shows when the handle is opened. For food service the box is filled immediately, so it rarely gets seen empty.
Is a gable box cheaper than a bag?
Generally not — a gable uses more board than a bag of similar capacity. What it gives you is structure, so contents don't crush. For food service that usually justifies the difference.
How long do custom gable boxes take?
Most orders are ready in about 8–12 business days from proof approval, handle included. Rush production is available at a quoted premium, shipping included.
What's the minimum order for gable boxes?
100 boxes. Gable boxes are often bought for events and seasonal service rather than continuous use, so the low minimum suits one-off runs as well as ongoing supply.
