Neck Magnetic Closure Boxes

Neck magnetic closure boxes add an inner collar standing slightly proud of the base, so the lid seats over it and meets resistance as it lifts, making the opening slow and deliberate. Collar height sets that resistance; taller means slower. For prestige products, the reveal is much of the purchase, while everyday gifting achieves most of the effect with a simpler lid.

Two Closures Working Together: Collar Plus Magnet

This box opens in two stages. The magnet lets go first, with the small snap any magnetic closure gives. Then the lid has to be drawn up past the collar, and that second stage is where the slow, held-back feel comes from.

Each part does a different job. The magnet keeps the box shut on a shelf, in a bag and on a counter; the collar controls how the open feels in the hand. Without the magnet, the same collar build is our shoulder neck box. With it, the lid stays put until someone means to open it and still gives the drag that makes a prestige product feel worth its price. Typical buyers are fragrance, spirits, skincare and watch brands launching something they want unboxed slowly.

Collar Height, Base Depth and Magnet Position

Three measurements decide how this box behaves: the depth of the base, how far the collar stands above it, and the depth of the lid that seats over the collar.

Attribute Specification
Core Grayboard, typically 2–3 mm
Collar Inner wall standing above the base, wrapped in any color
Closure Concealed magnets holding lid to base
Wrap Printed paper, linen or textured paper
Size Cut to your product's dimensions
Interior Insert seated inside the collar

The grayboard base and collar are cut and assembled before wrapping, so the collar height is fixed at the dieline stage. We confirm it with you in writing, alongside the internal and external dimensions.

Paying for a Slower Open on a Prestige Product

The case for this build is that the first few seconds with the product are part of what the buyer paid for. A lid that drops off is over in a moment. One that has to be drawn up past a collar makes the customer slow down, and the bottle or piece underneath comes into view gradually rather than all at once.

That's why fragrance houses that sell on the open specify collar boxes for their top lines, and add the magnet so the lid can't slide off in a handbag or on a store counter. The extra wall and extra wrap add cost, and below a certain price point that cost doesn't come back. For a mid-priced product, a magnetic box without the collar is the better spend.

Finishing the Collar as Well as the Lid

This box has a surface most boxes don't: the collar, hidden when the box is closed and the first thing seen as the lid comes up. It can be wrapped in any color, independent of the lid and base, so many brands use it for contrast, such as a gold collar under a black lid, or a brand color under a neutral exterior.

The lid and base are finished as any rigid wrap is, with foil, embossing, debossing, spot UV or soft-touch available on paper, linen or textured stock. Keep foil off the top edge of the collar, because the lid slides over that edge every time the box is opened and closed. An insert in a color chosen with the collar finishes the view once the lid is off.

Neck Boxes for Limited Editions and Prestige Launches

Fragrance is the core market, but the build turns up wherever a product's price depends on how it's revealed. Spirits houses put anniversary and small-batch releases in it. Skincare houses use it for serums and creams at the top of a range. Watch and fine jewelry brands order a shallow version for a single piece, and candle makers a tall one for a hand-poured vessel.

Most of these orders fall within prestige and limited-edition launches, where the run is small or seasonal and the box is expected to stay on a dresser or shelf long after the product inside is used up. The collar is part of why it gets kept: an empty box still opens the same way.

Signing Off Collar Fit Before the Full Run

Collar fit is the detail worth checking in hand, since a very small change in clearance changes how much the lid drags. On orders above 10,000 boxes we send free samples before the bulk run, so you can feel the open with your own product inside.

Smaller runs are approved from a proof, with free and unlimited design help until it's right. Production takes 20 business days from approval. If you need it sooner, rush costs extra and is priced upfront. Every box goes through a three-stage check before it ships, and if the bulk doesn't match the approved proof, we reprint at our cost. Orders start at 100 boxes, with shipping included in the price.

What brands say about this box

Answers before you have to ask.

What does the neck or collar actually do?

It's an inner wall that sits slightly proud of the base, so the lid seats over it rather than onto the base directly. That creates resistance as it lifts, which is what makes the open feel slow and deliberate.

Can neck boxes be made in different heights?

Yes. The collar height changes how much resistance you feel as the lid lifts — taller gives a slower, more deliberate open. We'll advise based on the effect you want.

Are neck boxes worth the extra cost?

For prestige products, yes — the slow reveal is much of what buyers are paying for. For everyday gifting, a standard lid-and-base achieves most of the effect at lower cost.

How long do neck magnetic boxes take?

20 business days from proof approval, collar included. Rush production is available at a stated premium, with shipping included in what you pay.

Can neck boxes be ordered in several sizes?

Yes, and collar height can vary between them. Running several together shares setup while letting each be sized to its own product.
