Lotion Boxes

Lotion boxes carry more weight than most cosmetic cartons, and a standard tuck base can give way beneath a full bottle. We specify an auto-lock base that locks square as the carton opens, or a snap-lock for lighter bottles and squeeze tubes. Interior printing is an inexpensive addition at this carton size. Send us the filled weight and we'll design the carton around it.

Lotion Boxes That Carry a Full Bottle's Weight

Body lotion, hand cream, body butter and after-sun all lead to the same packaging question: how to box a product that is heavier and taller than most cosmetics, and often fitted with a pump or a flip cap. A lotion box is a printed carton built for a filled bottle, pump dispenser or squeeze tube, usually sold in more than one size. Buyers are body care brands, spa and hotel amenity suppliers, skincare lines with a body range, and gift brands bundling lotion with soap. The carton matters here because lotion often sits next to unboxed bottles on the same shelf, so it has to justify itself through presentation, room for product information, and keeping a pump from being pressed down in a bag.

Lotion Box Specs: Base Lock, Caliper and Sizing

Lotion cartons sit at the heavier end of the cosmetics range, on folding boxboard thick enough to keep its edges with a filled bottle inside.

Spec Lotion box
Board SBS coated board, 18–24pt
Base Auto-lock or snap-lock
Top Tuck flap
Internal size From the filled bottle, pump or cap fitted
Tolerance About ±0.5–1mm

Pump bottles are measured with the pump locked down, and the carton leaves headroom above the actuator. Squeeze tubes are measured flat at the crimp, which is their widest point. A tube carton can drop to a lighter caliper than a glass or heavy plastic bottle needs.

Why Lotion Cartons Use a Locking Bottom

The base gets most of the attention on a lotion box, and the reason is packing as much as weight. A pre-glued auto-lock bottom forms in one movement: the packer squares the flat carton and the base drops into place, so the bottle goes straight in from the top. On a bench filling a few hundred units, that's real time saved on every batch. It also sits flat and square on a shelf, which matters for a tall carton that would otherwise lean against its neighbors. Most lotion boxes use this build. A few lighter products, such as a small hand cream tube, manage on a snap-lock or even a tuck base, and we'll say so when the heavier construction isn't needed.

Interior and Exterior Print for Lotion Packaging

Lotion cartons have more panel area than lipstick or gloss boxes, and that space is usually needed: ingredients, directions, volume and any claims the brand makes all take room. Full-color CMYK and Pantone matching are standard on coated board. Inside the walls and lid, a second print side can carry a pattern, a usage tip or a short thank-you line. Soft-touch lamination suits premium body care, but pair it with anti-scuff film on dark designs, since a heavy carton slides against its neighbors in a case. Foil on the brand name works well, and an emboss on a tall front panel reads from shelf distance. Gloss lamination is a practical choice for bathroom products, where cartons pick up damp fingerprints.

Lotion Boxes for Body Care, Hand Cream and Bath Lines

Hand cream is the most gifted lotion format, and a slim carton turns a squeeze tube into a counter purchase. Body lotion and butter in pump bottles suit retail shelves and spa resale. Hotel and spa suppliers buy branded cartons for amenity lines sold in rooms or at reception. After-sun and body oil ranges share one structure with different artwork, which keeps a seasonal range affordable. Many bath and body sellers pair a lotion with a bar of soap in one gift pack, which moves the order to a wider carton with a two-cavity insert. Fragrance brands adding a matching body lotion usually take the carton design straight from the perfume box so the two sit together.

Quoting Lotion Boxes From Filled Weight to Delivery

A useful quote starts with three numbers: the filled weight, the bottle's height including the pump or cap, and its widest diameter. From those we draw the dieline and choose the base, then confirm the internal dimensions in writing before a proof goes out. Free design help covers artwork and layout through as many revisions as you need. Approve the proof and production takes 8–12 business days. Rush is available at extra cost, priced before you commit. Everything is in the quote, including dies, plates and setup, and shipping is part of the price. Every box is checked at three stages during production. The minimum order is 100 boxes per size.

What brands say about this box

Answers before you have to ask.

Will the base hold a heavy lotion bottle?

That's the first thing we spec. A tuck base will give way under a full bottle, so lotion cartons usually need an auto-lock or snap-lock base that holds weight. Tell us the filled weight and we'll choose a base that won't drop it.

Can lotion boxes be printed inside?

Yes. Interior print is where a lot of brands get the most return, because the customer sees it at the moment of opening. It costs less than you'd expect on a carton this size, and it photographs well.

What base holds up best for lotion?

An auto-lock base is the reliable choice. It's pre-glued so it locks square as the box opens, and it holds a filled bottle without the base giving way. A snap-lock base is a lower-cost alternative for lighter bottles.

How long do lotion boxes take?

About 8–12 business days from proof approval. Rush production is available at an extra cost we'll share before you commit, and shipping is included in what you pay rather than added later.

Can lotion boxes be made in several sizes?

Yes, and most ranges need two or three. A box cut to each bottle size protects better and costs less in dimensional weight than forcing everything into one. We'll quote the sizes together as a single job.
