Pre-Roll Boxes
Pre roll boxes come as tubes for single pre-rolls or cartons for multipacks, and cartons give more flat panel space for product identity, batch details, warnings and scannable codes. Child-resistant mechanisms are designed in where regulations require them. Rules vary by state and change, so confirm your requirements; artwork revisions before print are free and unlimited.

Pre-Roll Packaging Decided by the Count Per Pack
The first question on a pre-roll order is how many go in each pack, because the answer picks the format before any design work starts. One, two, five or ten each call for a different build, and a brand selling several counts usually ends up with more than one format across its range. The buyers are cannabis and hemp brands, dispensary house lines and producers moving from bulk jars into retail packs. All of them work under labeling rules that differ by state and change often, so the pack has to leave room for copy that may not be final yet. The sections below set out each format, what it holds and where its panel space sits.
Tube, Carton and Tray Specs for Pre-Rolls
Pre-roll packs are commonly made on unbleached kraft tube stock for tubes and kraft board for cartons and trays.
| Format | Holds | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tube | One pre-roll | Round build; design wraps the curve |
| Carton | Multipacks | Flat faces for required copy |
| Tray | Multipacks, kept apart | Sits inside the outer pack |
| Child-resistant | Any format | Designed into the dieline from the start |
| Size | Cut to your length and diameter | Confirmed in writing |
Panel space is planned before artwork, with a flat face kept clear for whatever copy your market requires. On kraft, one or two strong colors print more cleanly than fine full-color detail, which turns muddy on unbleached stock.
Why a Single Pre-Roll Goes in a Tube
A single pre-roll is long, light and easy to crush, and once bought it usually travels in a pocket or a bag. A round paper tube follows that shape closely, resists being squashed flat and closes again after opening. It also suits counter display, since a row of tubes stands upright in very little space. The trade-off is surface. A tube has no flat panel, so required copy wraps around a curve and long wording gets tight quickly. If your state's text runs long, or you sell several per pack, a carton handles it better. Tubes earn their place on singles and premium lines where the shape itself is part of the appeal.
Branding Next to a Fixed Warning Panel
Pre-roll artwork works best when the required panel is placed first and the branding is built around it. That panel carries the identity, batch and warning details your state sets, and it needs a flat, uncluttered face so it stays readable. The logo, strain names and color coding go on the remaining panels. On cartons, foil and embossing both work on the front face, and a matte surface keeps kraft looking natural. On tubes the design wraps the full circumference, so place the logo where it faces forward when the tube stands, and keep required copy in one continuous band rather than split across the seam. What to skip: decoration that crowds the required panel's edges.
Pre Roll Boxes for Singles, Multipacks and Dispensary Shelves
Singles in tubes sell at the counter and as add-ons at checkout. Multipack cartons carry a brand's main offer, usually in a few fixed counts, and their flat faces hold the most copy. Dispensary house brands use both, often with one design system across tubes and cartons so the range reads as a set on the shelf. Brands working across categories commonly apply the same thinking to hemp and CBD flower lines, where labeling rules vary just as much. Sample packs and launch editions are another use, since a short run lets a brand test a format before committing. The brand confirms the rules for every state it sells in; the pack is built to give that copy room.
Ordering Pre-Roll Packaging While the Rules Shift
Labeling rules for pre-rolls move often enough that the order process has to allow for change. Tell us at the start if you need a child-resistant mechanism, because it shapes the structure rather than being added at the end, and it stays inside the standard 8–12 business days from proof approval. Rush is available at an extra cost quoted upfront. Revisions before print are unlimited and free, so a late wording change costs nothing before you approve. Every run passes a three-stage check, and if bulk misses the approved proof, we reprint at our cost. Orders start at 100 boxes and shipping is included, with dies, plates and setup already in the quote.

What brands say about this box
They live there rather than here, where we can't edit them, delete them, or pick which ones you get to see. That is exactly what makes them worth reading.

What compliance space do pre roll boxes need?
Product identity, batch or lot details, any required warnings and often a scannable code. Requirements vary by state and change, so we leave dedicated flat panel space rather than crowding compliance copy around branding.
Can pre roll boxes be child-resistant?
Yes, where regulations require it. Because a child-resistant mechanism changes the construction, we design the box around it from the start rather than adding it to an existing dieline.
Should pre roll boxes be tubes or cartons?
Tubes suit single pre-rolls and give a premium feel in a small footprint. Cartons suit multipacks and give more panel space for compliance copy. Many brands run both across their range.
How long do pre roll boxes take?
Usually 8–12 business days from proof approval, including a child-resistant mechanism if specified. Rush is available at an extra cost stated upfront.
Can pre roll boxes be updated if rules change?
Yes, and revisions before print are unlimited and free. That matters more here than almost anywhere, since state compliance wording shifts and changing artwork costs you nothing.
