Cardboard Sleeves
Cardboard sleeves suit wraps that must hold their shape, carry full-color print, or slide on and off repeatedly without creasing, which is where paper falls short. The heavier board costs somewhat more, usually justified for retail and reuse. A cut-out window lets the product show through without needing a window in the box too. Each size is matched exactly to its base.

Cardboard Sleeves for Wraps That Get Handled
A cardboard sleeve is the one to choose when people will touch it more than once. A gift box picked up and turned over in a shop, a subscription box whose sleeve is slid off and kept, a set of skincare minis opened and closed through the month: each needs a wrap that springs back to its shape. Coated board does that, and it carries print with the sharpness a shelf demands. Buyers here are usually retail and gift brands who tried a paper band and found it looked tired after a day on display, or who want the sleeve to feel like part of the product rather than a label around it.
Coated Board Specs for a Sleeve That Keeps Its Shape
The stock is heavier coated paperboard, a single bleached sheet with a coated face that holds ink on the surface.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Stock | Coated paperboard with a printable white side |
| Weight | Heavier than paper sleeve stock |
| Fit | Matched exactly to each base |
| Window | Optional die-cut opening |
| Full color outside; inside on request | |
| Finish | Gloss, matte or soft-touch film |
Each base size gets its own sleeve size, since a board sleeve has no give. Measure the base's outer dimensions, including any lid lip, and we'll build the sleeve around them, confirming the figures in writing before the proof.
Stiffer Board for Sleeves That Come Off and Go Back On
Paper bends at the edges each time it's slid, and after a few uses the sleeve looks worn. Board resists that. It keeps square corners, slides back over the base without catching, and still looks new on the third or fourth open. On chocolate and confectionery gift boxes, where the sleeve comes off, the box is opened, and the sleeve goes back on to save the rest for later, that durability keeps a gift looking like one. Board also holds a crisper print and takes lamination, so it suits shelves where the sleeve is the main display face. The extra cost over paper is modest. Still, if the sleeve is torn off and thrown away at first use, paper does the job for less.
Full Color, Laminates and Die-Cut Windows on a Board Sleeve
Because the coated face keeps ink from soaking in, full-color artwork, photography and fine type all print sharply. Gloss, matte and soft-touch films apply cleanly, and foil and spot UV work well for a logo or a single accent.
A die-cut window shows the base or product underneath. Each window shape needs its own cutting tool, so settle the shape before ordering several sleeve sizes, and keep artwork clear of the window edge and of the sleeve's folds. Soft-touch shows scuffs on a sleeve handled often, so where the sleeve goes on and off repeatedly, matte is the more forgiving film. Spend on one finish done well rather than layering three on a surface people will hold.
Cardboard Sleeves in Beauty, Confectionery and Retail Gifting
On skincare kits and beauty gift sets, a plain base carries the products and the sleeve carries the launch artwork and finish. Confectioners sleeve chocolate boxes for seasonal editions, and gift brands wrap rigid bases so one box can serve several occasions. Retailers selling from a shelf use board sleeves because they survive being picked up and put back without looking handled. Candle and home brands use them over a plain carton to show scent names clearly. In each case the sleeve is a visible face that gets reused, not a disposable band, and that's what the heavier stock is paying for.
Ordering a Family of Sleeve Sizes in One Run
Most cardboard sleeve orders cover more than one size, because a range rarely sits in a single base. Running them together shares setup across the order, so list every base size when you quote rather than adding them later.
Lead time is around 8–12 business days counted from proof approval, and rush can be arranged at a price given upfront. The minimum order is 100 sleeves, and free samples are included once an order passes 10,000. Every run gets a three-stage check, the quote includes dies, plates, setup and shipping, and if bulk differs from the approved proof, we reprint at our cost. Artwork help is free and unlimited, and we proof each size separately so the art sits correctly on its own fit.

When is cardboard the better sleeve stock?
When the sleeve needs to hold its shape, carry full-color print, or slide on and off repeatedly without creasing. Paper suits single-use and high-volume; cardboard suits retail and reuse.
Can cardboard sleeves have a window?
Yes, and it works well since the sleeve is already framing the product. A cut-out in the sleeve lets the box or product underneath show through without needing a window in both.
Is cardboard sleeve stock more expensive?
Somewhat, since it's heavier board. The gap is modest, and for a sleeve that slides on and off repeatedly the extra stiffness usually justifies it.
How long do cardboard sleeves take?
Around 8–12 business days from proof approval. Rush is available at an extra cost we'll state upfront, with shipping included on every order.
Can I order cardboard sleeves in several sizes?
Yes, and it's common since a sleeve has to match its base exactly. Running several sizes together shares setup while giving each a proper fit.
