Mascara Boxes
Mascara boxes are cut narrow because a slim tube in a wide carton tips, rolls and knocks the wand against the wall, which damages the brush before the customer's first application. Precise fit protects here more than board thickness does. The narrow panel takes foil or embossing well on a matte dark carton, provided the mark stays simple. Minimum 100 boxes, with free design help.

Mascara Boxes Cut Tall and Narrow
Mascara is replaced more often than most makeup, since many users swap a tube every few months, so the same customer sees the box again and again. That repetition makes the carton part of the brand's recognition: the shape and color a shopper reaches for without reading. A mascara box is a single-tube folding carton shaped to the tube's long, slim profile. Buyers are color cosmetics brands with a hero lash product, brands that sell lengthening, volumizing and waterproof versions side by side, and private-label makers producing mascara for several clients. For all of them, the carton has to identify the variant quickly on a crowded shelf and match the rest of the eye range in color and finish.
Mascara Box Specs: Height, Width and Panel Size
Mascara cartons use coated SBS board at a light caliper; the tube weighs little and the panels are small.
| Spec | Mascara box |
|---|---|
| Board | SBS coated board, 14–16pt |
| Height | Tube length, cap included |
| Width | Widest diameter, minimal clearance |
| Construction | Reverse tuck or straight tuck |
| Tolerance | About ±0.5–1mm |
| Front panel | Narrow; artwork planned at actual size |
Some mascara caps are wider than the tube body. The carton is sized to the cap, and a small insert can take up the space around the slimmer barrel below it where needed. Lash serums and primers in similar tubes take the same specification, with height adjusted to the component.
Why Mascara Belongs in a Slim Tuck Carton
Nearly all mascara is sold in a tall tuck carton, and other builds rarely beat it. A slim carton packs densely on a shelf, so a retailer can face more units in the same width, and it fits the narrow slots of a makeup organizer or a beauty advent calendar. It's also the cheapest structure for a product that sells in volume and is restocked often. Reverse tuck keeps the front face uninterrupted for the brand mark, and the end flaps give a clean place for the variant name. A small number of brands pair mascara with a liner or primer in a wider carton, but for the single tube, nothing else pays its way.
What Fits on a Narrow Mascara Panel
The front of a mascara carton is often narrower than a thumb, so artwork is planned at actual size, not on a large screen. Most brands run the logo vertically up the face and use the side and back panels for ingredients, directions and the variant name. Color coding by variant, a black band for volume and a blue one for waterproof, for instance, lets shoppers pick the right tube without reading. Four-color process and Pantone spot inks both run on this board, as do soft-touch lamination and spot UV. Foil and emboss are possible too. What doesn't hold up at this width is small type in foil and very thin lines in any finish; both tend to fill in or break.
Mascara Box Orders: Proof, Check and Delivery
Send a tube with its cap on, or its full length and widest diameter. We draw the dieline, agree on the inside measurements with you in writing, and proof your artwork at actual size, so you can judge legibility on the narrow face before anything prints. Design help is free for as many rounds as it takes. Production runs 8–12 business days from approval; rush is possible at extra cost, quoted first. Each carton is checked at three stages, which catches a panel misregistered by a millimeter before it reaches you. Dies, plates and setup are included in the price, as is shipping. Orders start at 100 boxes, and if the run doesn't match your approved proof, the replacement run is ours to pay for.

What brands say about this box

Why do mascara boxes need to be so narrow?
Because mascara tubes are slim and tall, and a box any wider lets them tip and roll. Cutting close to the tube keeps it upright and stops the wand knocking against the wall, which is what damages the brush before first use.
Can mascara boxes take foil or emboss?
Both work, though the panel is narrow so keep the mark small and simple. Foil on a matte black or deep-colored carton reads well in this category. Fine detail struggles at this size, so simplify rather than shrink your logo.
Does the box protect the brush inside?
The box holds the tube upright so the wand doesn't knock against the wall, which is what damages bristles. A snug cavity does that better than a heavier board would — it's fit rather than thickness that protects here.
What's the turnaround on mascara boxes?
Most run in about 8–12 business days once you approve the proof. Rush production is available at an added cost. Shipping is included, and your minimum is 100 boxes rather than thousands.
Can I test mascara boxes before a full run?
Yes. At 100 boxes minimum, you can run a small batch, see how the print sits on the stock and how the tube fits, then scale with confidence. Free samples are available on orders above 10,000.
