Tea Boxes

Tea boxes cover loose leaf cartons, retail boxes for bagged tea, and gift sets with dividers separating several blends. The carton provides structure and shelf presence, while freshness comes from an inner bag or tin, so we size the box to hold that inner component snugly. Most tea blenders and retailers keep one carton structure and change only the printed panel for each blend.

Tea Boxes for Blends Sold Loose, in Bags or in Tins

How a tea leaves the blender decides what kind of box it needs. Loose leaf in a foil bag needs a carton that holds the bag upright and stops it slumping to one side. A tin needs a square interior so it doesn't slide about when the box is picked up. Bagged tea and sachets need a retail carton with enough panel space for steeping notes. Gift sets bring several of these together under one lid. Tea blenders, specialty tea shops, tea rooms with a retail shelf and gift brands building seasonal sets all start from that question. Most carry a range of blends, so the box is usually designed once and then repeated across the whole line.

Tea Carton Board, Inner Fit and Divider Layout

Tea boxes are folding cartons sized around whatever holds the tea.

Spec Tea box
Board Kraft or coated cardboard, 16–24pt
Tolerance ±0.5–1mm
Interior Sized to your inner bag, tin or sachet stack
Dividers For gift sets holding several blends
Construction Straight or reverse tuck; auto-bottom for heavier packs

Many tea brands pick natural unbleached carton stock because it suits loose-leaf and single-estate positioning; coated board is the better pick when blend colors need to print bright. We build the dieline from the dimensions of your bag or tin and check with you in writing whether they're inside or outside measurements, which is what makes the tolerance mean something.

Why a Tuck Carton Carries Most Tea Ranges

For a single blend, a tuck-end tea carton does the job at the lowest cost. It ships flat, folds in seconds at the packing table, and gives six printable panels for blend name, tasting notes and brewing guidance. Because the carton isn't the freshness barrier, there's no reason to pay for a heavier build around a bag or tin that already does that work. A tuck end also opens and recloses easily, which suits a product used a spoonful at a time over several weeks. Gift sets are where the case changes: several blends, a reveal on opening and a box people keep can justify a lid-and-base build instead. For everyday retail tea, the tuck carton is the sensible spend.

Matte Kraft, Blend Panels and Where Foil Belongs on Tea

Tea packaging tends to work best quiet. On kraft, one or two ink colors with plenty of bare board read as craft and suit loose-leaf brands; expect the ink to sit warmer and darker than on white. On coated board, full-color print lets each blend carry its own color while the layout stays fixed. Gloss rarely suits tea; a matte or uncoated look fits loose leaf better. Steep time, water temperature and ingredients belong on a side panel, where a customer looks once and then comes back to. Foil is worth paying for on a gift set or a reserve blend; on an everyday carton the money goes further on better artwork. Keep the blend name in the same position on every carton so the range scans as one.

Tea Boxes for Blenders, Tea Rooms and Holiday Gift Sets

Tea blenders use cartons as their main retail pack, running one structure across dozens of blends. Tea rooms and cafés that sell tea to take home use them at the counter, often in kraft to match the shop. Wellness brands package herbal and functional blends in cartons with room for full ingredient lists. Gift brands build holiday and corporate sets with dividers for three or four blends. Hotels and spas give boxed tea as amenities or sell it in their shops. Tea also sits comfortably alongside specialty food and gourmet pantry ranges, and delis and farm shops that stock both often want cartons that match the rest of their shelf.

Launching a Tea Range One Carton at a Time

A tea range doesn't have to launch all at once. Start with the blends you're sure of, at 100 boxes each, and add the rest on the same structure as they're ready. Design help is unlimited and free, so the first carton can be refined until the template works for every blend that follows. Production takes 8–12 business days after proof approval, with rush available at an extra cost we state before you commit. Quotes include dies, plates and setup, divider inserts on gift sets among them, so nothing new appears on the invoice later. If a bulk run doesn't match the approved proof, we reprint it at our cost, and shipping is included either way.

What brands say about this box

Answers before you have to ask.

What formats do tea boxes cover?

Loose leaf cartons, retail boxes for bagged tea, and gift sets with dividers for multiple blends. The structure changes depending on whether there's an inner bag, a tin, or sachets sitting directly in the box.

Can tea boxes hold an inner bag or tin?

Yes, and most retail tea boxes do. The carton provides structure and shelf presence while the inner bag or tin handles freshness. We size the box so the inner sits snugly rather than rattling.

Does tea packaging need a freshness barrier?

The carton doesn't provide it, the inner bag or tin does. Tea loses aroma through exposure, so the barrier has to be the liner. The box's job is structure, shelf presence and information.

How long do tea boxes take to produce?

Usually 8–12 business days from proof approval, dividers included. Rush production is available at an extra cost we'll state before you commit, with shipping included.

Can I order tea boxes per blend?

Yes, and it's the economical approach. Most roasters and blenders keep one carton structure and change only the printed panel per blend, so the range looks coordinated without new tooling each time.
