Truffle Boxes
Truffle boxes hold each piece in a cavity cut within a millimeter or two of its diameter, because truffles rolling and bruising against each other is the most frequent form of transit damage. Mixed assortments can combine different cavity sizes in one tray. A sturdy folding box protects them perfectly well; rigid suits gift ranges and takes 20 business days instead of 8–12.

Truffle Boxes for Pieces That Mark on Contact
Truffles are the most easily marked thing a chocolatier sells. A cocoa-dusted truffle leaves powder on whatever it touches, a glossy enrobed one shows every scrape, and a piped or decorated top flattens if anything presses on it. The box exists to keep each one from touching anything except its own seat. Buyers are chocolatiers selling by the piece and by the box, patisseries with a truffle counter, hotels, and gift companies building premium assortments. They sell small counts at a high price per piece, so a single scuffed truffle is noticed straight away. Rough handling isn't the main risk. The main risk is pieces being able to move at all.
Truffle Box Cavity Depth, Diameter and Case Stock
The case can be folding board, or a grayboard case around the cavity tray for gift ranges. The tray matters more than either.
| Attribute | Truffle box |
|---|---|
| Cavity diameter | Within a millimeter or two of the truffle |
| Cavity depth | Set so the top sits just below the lid |
| Mixed sizes | Several cavity diameters in one tray |
| Case, folding | SBS, around 16–24pt |
| Case, rigid | 2mm grayboard, wrapped |
| Inks | Food-safe |
Depth is the measurement people forget. A cavity cut to the right diameter but too shallow leaves the truffle sitting proud, and the lid presses down on the top of every piece.
Why Each Truffle Gets Its Own Cavity
A flat tray with paper cups lets truffles shuffle as soon as the box is tilted. A cavity-cut insert sized to the truffle holds each one in its own hollow, with walls between, so a tipped or dropped box ends with every piece where it started. That matters more for truffles than for most chocolate, because they are round. A square praline wedged in a row stays put; a sphere rolls at the slightest angle. Cavities also make counting simple at the packing table, since an empty seat is obvious at a glance, and they present the assortment as a neat grid the customer can read before choosing a first piece.
Lid Print and Finish on a Truffle Assortment
Lid: the main print surface, often a dark or cream base with the brand and a single foil mark. Matte coating suits truffle boxes, since it makes dark colors look deeper and fits the cocoa palette. Flavor key: a printed map inside the lid that matches each cavity to a flavor is one of the most useful things a truffle box can carry, and it adds little to the cost. Tray color: a dark tray hides cocoa dust, while a gold or cream tray shows every speck. On a rigid box, the print goes on the wrap paper rather than the board itself. Skip finishes on the base and the tray walls, where nobody looks.
Truffle Boxes for Chocolatiers, Hotel Turndown and Wedding Favors
At a chocolatier's counter, the same tray design usually runs in several counts, from a pair at the till to a large box for the gift shelf. Hotels leave a small truffle box at turndown, printed with the hotel's name. Wedding planners order two-truffle boxes as favors at each place setting. Restaurants offer a box of house truffles to take home after dinner. Corporate gift teams send larger assortments to clients and staff at the end of the year. Most of this sits squarely in high-end chocolate gifting, where the price per piece is high and the box has to look as considered as the truffles inside it, right down to the tray.
From Truffle Diameter to Finished Tray
Measure a finished truffle, not the shell. Coating and dusting add width, and the tray is cut to what comes off your line. Send the diameter and height for each flavor, and we build the dieline from those figures, confirming in writing whether they're internal or external. Folding truffle boxes take about 8–12 business days from proof approval; rigid takes 20, with rush available on either at an extra cost quoted upfront. Every box passes a three-stage check before it ships, with a reprint at our cost if the bulk run doesn't match the approved proof. On orders above 10,000 boxes, samples are free, so you can test a full tray of real truffles first.

What brands say about this box
They live there rather than here, where we can't edit them, delete them, or pick which ones you get to see. That is exactly what makes them worth reading.
Read all reviews on Trustpilot(opens in a new tab)Answers before you have to ask.
How exact do truffle cavities need to be?
Within a millimeter or two. A cavity cut too wide lets truffles roll and bruise against each other, which is the most common damage in transit. Send us the truffle diameter and we'll cut the tray to it.
Can truffle boxes hold mixed counts?
Yes, with a tray laid out for your specific count. Mixed assortments are common, and we can cut different cavity sizes in one tray if your truffles vary in diameter.
Do truffle boxes need to be rigid?
Not necessarily. A sturdy folding box with a good tray protects truffles perfectly well. Rigid suits gift and luxury ranges where the box is kept, and takes 20 business days rather than 8–12.
How long do truffle boxes take to produce?
Folding builds take about 8–12 business days from proof approval, tray included; rigid takes 20. Rush is available on both at an added cost quoted first.
Can truffle boxes be ordered in several counts?
Yes. Most chocolatiers run several counts, and sharing one box structure across them while changing the tray layout costs less than separate tooling for each.
