Large Gable Boxes

Large gable boxes put the whole load through a handle cut from the box itself, so board that works at small size tears at the cut when proportionally scaled up. We rate the stock to your filled weight, not the dimensions, and reinforce the handle area with extra board or laminate, where oversized gables typically fail first. Large and standard sizes can run together economically.

Gables Sized for Bulk, Bundles and Heavier Fills

Large gables are for what doesn't fit the standard sizes: several items packed together, a hamper, a bulky single product, or anything heavy enough that the customer notices the weight when they lift it. Buyers are usually shops and brands that already use smaller gables and need a matching box for bigger orders, or gift and event businesses packing multi-item sets. Size is the easy part. The decisions that matter here are the board and the handle area, since a bigger box puts more weight through the same cut. If your product fits a standard gable comfortably, stay there; a large build uses more board and only earns it when the fill genuinely needs the room.

Large Gable Board Ratings and Handle Reinforcement

Board is rated to the filled weight of the box, and the largest sizes are commonly made on fluted board for heavier gables.

Attribute Large gable boxes
Board Heavier paperboard; fluted board common at the largest sizes
Rating basis Filled weight, not outer dimensions
Handle area Reinforced with extra board or laminate
Size Cut to your product's dimensions
Window Optional, positioned low on the front panel

Send us the heaviest realistic fill rather than the average one, since the handle has to carry the worst case, not the typical order. If you sell several fill levels in the same box, rate it to the fullest.

Why Scaling Up a Gable Means Changing the Board

Making a gable bigger doesn't scale its strength along with it. Double each dimension and the box holds roughly eight times the volume, but the handle is still a single strip of board carrying all of it. That's why a large gable is a different specification, not a stretched copy of a small one: heavier board, and often reinforcement around the handle, where the strain gathers. Ordering a bigger box on the same stock to save money usually ends with handles tearing on the way home, and the cost of that lands on your counter as replacements. The large variant is the right choice once the fill passes what a standard size was rated for, as with family-size grocery and meal packs carried out in one trip.

Large Gables for Bottles, Hampers and Family Packs

Large gables suit anything heavy that leaves the shop in the customer's hand. Wine shops and breweries use them for two- and three-bottle carry packs, where the handle takes real weight on the walk to the car. Delis and gift shops pack hampers and seasonal sets with several jars, bottles and boxed items together. Caterers and event businesses use them for shared platters and party packs that feed a group. Retailers selling bulky homeware, plants or craft kits use them in place of a bag that would sag or split under the load. Corporate gifting teams order them for welcome kits, where several items need to arrive together and look like one gift.

Telling Us the Filled Weight Before We Quote

The quote for a large gable starts with two numbers: the product dimensions and the weight of a full box. With both, we specify the board and any handle reinforcement before pricing, so the quote reflects a box that will carry the load. Dies, plates and setup are included, with nothing added later. Production takes 8–12 business days from proof approval, and rush is available at extra cost, quoted upfront. The minimum is 100 boxes and shipping is included. Orders above 10,000 boxes come with free samples, which are worth using on a big run to load-test the handle with your real product before the bulk is released.

What brands say about this box

Answers before you have to ask.

How large can a gable box go before the handle fails?

It's the board rather than the size that limits it. A larger box holds more weight, and the handle is only as strong as the stock it's cut from. We rate the board to the filled weight rather than the dimensions.

Can large gable boxes have reinforced handles?

Yes, and at larger sizes they should be. Reinforcing the handle area with extra board or a laminate stops tearing at the cut, which is where large gable boxes fail first.

Do large gable boxes need heavier board?

Usually. A larger box holds more weight and the handle carries all of it, so board that works at small size will tear at the cut when scaled up. We rate to filled weight.

How long do large gable boxes take?

Usually 8–12 business days once you approve the proof, including reinforced handles. Rush is available at a stated premium, with shipping included.

Can I order large gables alongside standard ones?

Yes, and it's worth doing. A matching range across sizes reads better than boxes that don't quite align, and sharing setup keeps the per-unit cost down across both.
