Kraft Gable Boxes
Kraft gable boxes give the handled style an unbleached surface that suits natural and eco-led brands, and strength is unchanged, since that comes from caliper rather than the liner. Kraft absorbs ink, so colors read muted and warmer; one or two colors usually looks deliberate. Kraft recycles easily, though some coatings affect that. Most buyers order several sizes on one design.

Letting Brown Board Do the Branding
The cheapest way to make a handled box look branded is often to print less on it. Brown board says something to the customer before any ink goes down, so a single logo on the front wall can carry the whole design. That's the case for kraft gables: buyers who want a natural look and would rather put money into the product than into full-panel artwork. Market traders, farm shops, makers and roasters order them, along with larger brands running a plainer line beside their main packaging. If your artwork needs bright, accurate color across every panel, this is the wrong variant, and the coated white versions will serve you better. Kraft rewards restraint, and it punishes designs that fight the brown.
Kraft Gable Stock, Caliper and Coating Options
These are made on natural unbleached stock, with the board weight set by what the box has to carry.
| Attribute | Kraft gable boxes |
|---|---|
| Stock | Unbleached kraft paperboard |
| Surface | Brown face, with or without a grease-resistant coating |
| Caliper | Rated to your filled weight |
| Grease-resistant face | Optional; the coating type affects recycling |
| One or two colors recommended | |
| Size | Cut to your product's dimensions |
Name any recycling claim you plan to print on the box when you ask for a quote, so the coating can be specified to suit it. The handle is cut from the same kraft sheet as the walls, so it follows the same rating.
Why Kraft Is the Cheaper Handled Box That Looks Deliberate
Kraft is the plainer, less processed board, which usually keeps its price a little below coated white. On a gable that saving costs nothing in carrying strength, because the board weight holds the load, not the surface. The real question is whether your artwork needs a white base. If the design is a logo, a name and perhaps a pattern, kraft prints it well and the brown fills the rest. If the design depends on exact brand color or photography, it won't, and paying for coated board is the right call. Kraft also hides handling marks better than white, which matters wherever boxes are packed by hand at speed, as with bakers boxing goods for the walk home.
One or Two Inks on an Unbleached Peak
Kraft takes ink into its fibers rather than holding it on the surface, so print on a kraft gable is about strong shapes and few colors. Black and other dark inks read clearest. A single spot color works well for a logo, and two-color designs suit a logo with a pattern behind it. Pale colors lose contrast against the brown, and fine type softens at small sizes, so keep text on the flat walls and at a comfortable size. The angled top panels are best left plain or given a simple repeat. A grease-resistant face can be added where the contents call for it. Full-panel photographic artwork isn't a good use of this stock; that is what the coated variants are for.
Kraft Gables at Farm Stalls, Roasters and Market Tables
Kraft gables suit sellers whose customers already expect a plain, honest look. Coffee and tea counter bundles are a common use: a bag of beans with a mug, or a tin of loose leaf with a strainer, carried out as a gift. Farm stalls and farm shops use them for jars, preserves and mixed produce bundles. Market traders and makers use them for candles, soaps and small handmade goods, where a stamped or one-color logo matches the rest of the stall. Garden centers use them for seed packets and small tools. Brands with a refill or low-waste line often choose kraft for that range alone, keeping their main packaging on coated board so the two lines read differently.
Proofing Ink Color on Unbleached Stock
Approve the proof with the brown of the board in mind, since every color will read more muted on kraft than it does on a screen. Revisions before print are unlimited and free, which helps when you're testing whether a second ink earns its place. Once the proof is signed off, production takes 8–12 business days. Rush is available at extra cost, quoted upfront. The minimum order is 100 boxes, and shipping is included in the price. A run that misses the proof you approved is reprinted at our expense, which is why the proof deserves a close read on kraft, where small color differences are easy to miss. Your quote already includes the die, plates and setup.

What brands say about this box
They live there rather than here, where we can't edit them, delete them, or pick which ones you get to see. That is exactly what makes them worth reading.

Does kraft change how a gable performs?
Not structurally, since strength comes from caliper. What changes is how it looks and prints — kraft absorbs ink, so colors read muted and warmer than on coated board.
Are kraft gable boxes recyclable?
Yes. Kraft is unbleached pulp and recycles easily. A grease-resistant coating can affect that depending on type, so tell us if you need to meet a specific screen.
Is kraft cheaper than coated board?
Usually slightly, since coated board is bleached and treated. For gable boxes the more important question is whether you need the grease-resistant face, which both can have.
What's the turnaround on kraft gable boxes?
Around 8–12 business days once the proof is approved. Rush is available at an added cost we'll state upfront, with shipping included in what you pay.
Can kraft gable boxes be ordered per size?
Yes, and most operations need several. Running them together shares setup and keeps the branding consistent across meal sizes.
