Kraft Pillow Boxes
Kraft pillow boxes give the curved build an unbleached surface that signals handmade or natural before anything is printed, which suits small makers and event planners. Performance is unchanged; only the surface differs, with ink reading muted and warmer than on coated board. Kraft recycles easily, and 100 boxes lets you order precisely to your guest count or batch size.

When Unprinted Brown Is Half the Design
On a kraft pillow box, the first design decision is how much to leave alone. The board arrives brown, with visible fiber and a matte, slightly uneven tone, and that surface already says what many small brands want said. A stamp-style logo, a short line of type or a printed band around the middle is often all the box needs. Buyers who pick kraft tend to run small batches, change products often and want a box that looks consistent without a full artwork file behind it. The shape does the rest, since a closed curve looks wrapped. Where kraft is the wrong pick is narrow but real: artwork built on bright brand colors or photography will look dull on it, and belongs on coated board instead.
Unbleached Pillow Stock and Ink Options
The box is cut from brown unbleached card for curved builds, chosen for stiffness so the curved ends keep their tension once folded.
| Spec | What you get |
|---|---|
| Stock | Unbleached kraft, natural brown |
| One or two colors, best as solid marks | |
| Ink result | Absorbed into the surface; darker and softer than on white |
| Coating | Optional; type affects how the box recycles |
| Size | Cut to the bar, candle or favor it holds |
| Inserts | Simple card divider for a single bar or pendant |
Leaving the box unprinted is also an option, with the brown carrying the look on its own.
Kraft Over Coated When the Look Is Natural
Choosing kraft over coated white board is mostly a question of what the product needs to look like. A handmade item in a glossy white box can look mass-produced, while the same item in brown board looks like it came from the person who made it. Kraft also asks less of the artwork. There's no white base to fill, so a one-color mark looks finished rather than sparse. That's why it's the default for single bars wrapped for craft fairs, hand-poured goods and rustic wedding favors. The board saves a little against coated stock too, though not enough to decide the choice by itself. Choose coated when your artwork depends on bright, exact color. If it depends on a simple mark, kraft carries it for less.
Muted Ink and One-Color Marks on Kraft Curves
Kraft prints best in one or two colors, applied as solid shapes rather than gradients or photos. Because the board takes the ink in, colors land darker and warmer than the swatch: a bright red turns brick, and a pale blue nearly disappears. Pick high-contrast inks such as black, navy, deep green or dark red, and judge them on the proof rather than on screen. Fine lines and very small type soften into the fiber, so keep strokes generous. On a pillow box the bend adds a second limit: artwork near the curved ends distorts, so the mark belongs in the middle of the face. If a second color would compete with the brown, leave it out. The board is part of the palette.
Where Makers Put Kraft Pillow Boxes
Most kraft pillow buyers make the product themselves and sell it in small numbers. Soap makers use them for single bars at markets and for small gift bundles. Candle makers packing minis and samples use them to send a new scent out with a larger order, or to hand one across a stall. Wedding planners choose kraft for rustic and outdoor themes, where a glossy box would clash with burlap, wood and greenery. Small bakers and confectioners fill them with a couple of wrapped cookies or sweets; food sitting directly against the board is a separate spec question to raise with us. Jewelry makers who sell at fairs pair them with a card insert, and the plain brown suits silver and beads well.
Recyclability Claims and Your First Kraft Run
If you plan to print a recycling message or make any environmental claim on the box, say so before we quote. Plain unbleached kraft is simple, but a coating or laminate changes what's accurate to print, and wording that holds for one spec may not hold for another. The claim itself is your decision; our part is telling you exactly what the spec is, so the words match the board. Every run then goes through a three-stage check, and if the bulk doesn't match your approved proof, we reprint at our cost. Turnaround is 8–12 business days from approval, rush at an extra cost quoted before you order, shipping included. Design help is free and unlimited, so a one-color layout can go through several versions at no charge.

Does kraft change how a pillow box performs?
Not structurally. What changes is the surface. Kraft absorbs ink so colors read muted and warmer, and it signals handmade or natural before anything is printed on it.
Are kraft pillow boxes recyclable?
Yes. Kraft is unbleached pulp and recycles easily, which suits the handmade and favor market well. A coating can affect that depending on type, so tell us if it's a public claim.
Is kraft cheaper than coated board?
Usually slightly, since coated board is bleached and treated. The gap narrows at volume. For the favor and wedding market, the choice is usually about look rather than cost.
What's the turnaround on kraft pillow boxes?
Around 8–12 business days from proof approval. Rush is available at an added cost stated before you order, with shipping included rather than added later.
What's the minimum on kraft pillow boxes?
100 boxes. Kraft pillow boxes are popular with small makers and event planners, so the low minimum means you can order to your actual guest count or batch size.
