Car Hang Tags

Car hang tags slip over the mirror stem through a die-cut opening sized to fit easily without sliding off in motion. They hang in vehicles exposed to heat, where lightweight board warps, so heavier stock keeps them flat and readable. Dealers often use one side for branding and the other for service details. Multi-site dealer groups can vary details for each dealership location.

Mirror Tags That Work for the Service Desk, Not the Gate

Car hang tags are working labels. On a dealer lot, they carry the stock number and price so a salesperson can answer a question from across the lot. At a valet stand, they match a car to its keys and its owner. In a service lane, they tell the technician what the job is and tell the customer when to come back.

That makes them different from parking permits, which exist to be checked by someone enforcing a rule. A car tag is read by staff and drivers, often up close, and its details usually change from one vehicle to the next.

This page is for dealerships, valet operators, service centers and rental desks that need a tag on every mirror they handle.

Mirror Cut, Board Weight and Two Print Faces

Car tags are cut from heavier board that stays flat in a hot cab, since a light sheet warps once a parked car heats up.

Attribute Car tag spec
Stock Heavier coated cardboard
Mirror opening Die-cut to slip over the mirror stem
Print Both sides
Write-on area Left clear in the artwork, if you need one
Variants Same design, different details per location
Shape Cut to your outline

The opening is the part to get right. Send the mirror stem dimensions from a vehicle you handle often, and we'll set the cut to them and confirm it in writing before production starts.

Why Dealer Tags Are Specced for a Hot Cab

A tag on a garment or a gift sits in a shop at room temperature. A car tag hangs behind a windshield in full sun, in a cab that gets far hotter than the air outside, and it swings every time a door shuts or the car is moved.

Those conditions decide the spec. The board goes heavier so it holds its shape, the mirror cut is sized so the tag stays put in motion, and print goes on both sides because it's read from outside and inside the car. A tag built for a shelf curls quickly on a mirror.

The same heat is worth planning for with anything else that lives in a vehicle, including in-car chargers and dash-cam packaging sold at the parts counter.

Branding Outside, Service Details Inside the Cab

A mirror tag is read from two directions, so plan each face for its reader. The side facing out through the windshield works best with the dealership name and one large number or word, since it's read from several feet away on the lot. Bold type and strong contrast matter more than fine detail here.

The side facing the driver can carry more: service dates, mileage reminders, a phone number or a QR code, at a size readable from the driver's seat.

If staff write on the tag, say so at the quote stage, since a glossy lamination resists pen and we'll set the surface accordingly. Foil and embossing add little on a tag used for days and then thrown away; put the budget into print.

Car Tags for Lots, Valet Stands and Service Lanes

New and used car dealers hang a tag on every vehicle on the lot, with stock number, price and key features on the outward face. Service departments use them to mark cars in for repair and to remind customers of the next service date once the car goes home.

Valet operators at hotels, restaurants and events use them to match each car to its ticket. Rental and fleet desks hang them with return instructions. Detailers and car washes use them to show a vehicle is finished and ready for pickup.

Some dealers also add a branded tag to new-car handover gifts, so the welcome pack and the mirror carry the same mark on the day the customer drives away.

What Arrives With a Car Tag Order

Each order arrives cut, printed on both sides if you asked for it, and ready to hang. Before that, you get a proof showing both faces and the mirror opening, and design help is free if all you have is a logo and a list of details.

The minimum is 100 tags. Production runs 8–12 business days from approval; rush is available at an extra charge, quoted before you decide.

Every run passes a three-stage check, so a misaligned mirror cut is found before the tags ship rather than on the lot. If the bulk doesn't match the proof you approved, we reprint at our cost. Shipping is included, so the quoted price is what the tags cost delivered to the dealership.

What brands say about this box

Answers before you have to ask.

How do car tags hang from a mirror?

Through a die-cut opening shaped to slip over the mirror stem. The cut needs to be wide enough to fit easily but narrow enough that the tag doesn't slide off in motion.

Can car tags be printed both sides?

Yes, and it's worth doing since a mirror tag is seen from inside and outside the vehicle. Dealers often use one side for branding and the other for service details.

Do car tags need a heavier board?

Usually, since they hang in a vehicle exposed to heat and movement. A light board warps in a hot car, which makes the tag look cheap and can affect readability.

How long do car hang tags take?

Around 8–12 business days from proof approval, mirror cut included. Rush is available at an added cost stated upfront, with shipping included on every order.

Can car tags be ordered per dealership?

Yes, and it's common. Multi-site dealer groups often need the same design with different site details, and running the variants together shares setup across all of them.
