Holiday Gift Boxes
Holiday gift boxes face peak-season couriers, so anything shipped gets heavier board or a locking base. Several seasonal designs can share one box structure and run as one order, which costs far less than separate runs. Folding builds take 8–12 business days and rigid 20, but the season doesn't move, so allow several extra weeks for artwork and delivery. Rush costs extra.

Holiday Gift Boxes With a Six-Week Selling Window
A holiday box has a short life. It goes on the shelf in November, sells through December, and anything left on January 2 is stock nobody wants at full price. That affects how many to order more than how to design them. Retailers, chocolatiers and gift shops usually do better ordering close to their forecast and booking a second run if the first sells out, rather than ordering long and discounting what's left. A 100-box minimum makes that practical for a small shop trying a seasonal line for the first time. The catch is timing: the second run has to be booked early enough to land while the season is still selling, so the reorder decision has to be made by early December at the latest.
Holiday Gift Box Specs: Board Weight, Base and Fit
The build depends mostly on where the box goes after it leaves you. Counter and shelf boxes are commonly made on seasonal-print coated board; boxes going out through couriers need more.
| Spec | Counter and in-store | Shipped to customers |
|---|---|---|
| Board | 18–24pt coated board | Heavier board |
| Base | Standard | Locking base option |
| Rigid option | 2–3mm grayboard | 2–3mm grayboard |
| Insert | Optional tray | Tray recommended |
| Tolerance | ±0.5–1mm | ±0.5–1mm |
Size is cut to your contents, and internal dimensions are confirmed in writing. If one design will be used for both store and shipped orders, specify it for the shipped version.
Why a Lid-and-Tray Build Carries a Seasonal Range
A seasonal range usually runs on one base, which is why holiday gift boxes are commonly made as lid-and-tray. A lid that lifts off a shared base carries the season's artwork while the base stays the same size and color across every design. That means one base dieline and several lid designs, and if one design sells out, the next run changes only the lid artwork. The lid is also the largest unbroken print area on the box, so the seasonal design gets the whole top face instead of being split across flaps. The trade-off is cost. For low-priced items, such as a single chocolate bar or a stocking filler, a tuck carton does the job for less, and nobody expects a lift-off lid at that price.
Seasonal Artwork That Earns Its Cost Before January
Spend on what sells in the six weeks. Full-color seasonal artwork on coated board does most of the work, and a matte or gloss coating protects it on a busy shop floor. Foil is the finish most often added for the holidays. Each foil die adds tooling cost and time to the schedule, so use it on one design or one element rather than all of them. Embossing suits the rigid version. Interior print pays off on gift sets opened in front of the giver, less so on boxes bought for the shopper's own use. One cost-saving habit: leave the year off the artwork. A design without "2026" on it can go back on the shelf next November instead of being written off.
Holiday Gift Boxes for Chocolate Assortments, Retail Sets and Year-End Hampers
Confectioners order these every season, packing truffles, bark and holiday chocolate assortments into boxes that change design every year. Gift shops and department stores use them for curated retail sets, combining a candle, a treat and a small accessory under one seasonal lid. Hamper companies use the larger rigid version for year-end food and drink gifts. Cosmetics and fragrance brands use them for limited holiday sets sold for a few weeks only. The occasions go beyond Christmas: Hanukkah, Lunar New Year, Valentine's Day and Mother's Day each have their own short selling window. Brands that run several of them in a year often keep one box structure and treat each holiday as a new lid design.
Counting Back Business Days From a Holiday Ship Date
Holiday deadlines are calendar dates, but production is counted in business days, and the gap between the two catches people out in late November. Folding builds take 8–12 business days from proof approval and rigid builds take 20. Weekends and public holidays don't count, so a schedule that crosses Thanksgiving loses more days than it seems to. Count back from the date the boxes need to be packed, not the date they go on sale. Rush is available at extra cost, quoted upfront. Orders start at 100 boxes, shipping is included, and design help is free and unlimited. Every run passes a three-stage check, and if bulk doesn't match your approved proof, we reprint at our cost.

What brands say about this box
They live there rather than here, where we can't edit them, delete them, or pick which ones you get to see. That is exactly what makes them worth reading.

How far ahead should I order holiday boxes?
As early as you can. Standard turnaround is 8–12 business days for folding builds and 20 for rigid, but the season doesn't move. We'd suggest building in several weeks beyond that for artwork rounds and shipping.
Can I run several holiday designs at once?
Yes, and running them together shares setup costs. Seasonal ranges are the most common reason for this, and one box structure with several printed panels costs far less than separate runs.
Do holiday boxes need to be sturdier?
Often, since they're shipped more and handled more in transit during peak periods. We'd usually specify a heavier board or a locking base for anything going through a courier at that time of year.
How long do holiday gift boxes take?
Folding builds run about 8–12 business days, rigid takes 20, from proof approval. Order several weeks ahead of the season. Rush is available at an added cost stated upfront.
What's the minimum on holiday gift boxes?
100 boxes. If you run several designs across a season, sharing one structure across them keeps setup costs down while letting each look distinct.
