Large Popcorn Boxes
Large popcorn boxes carry several servings at once, and that extra weight spread over a wider base can push straight through an ordinary tuck bottom. We size the box to the volume you serve, then specify heavier board or a locking base rather than simply scaling up a smaller design. Several large sizes can run together for a consistent look across your concession range.

Sharing Tubs Carry More Than They Look
The family tub, the combo bucket, the box passed along a row of seats or set in the middle of a table: large popcorn boxes are the sharing end of the menu. They're bought by cinemas, bowling alleys, family entertainment centers and restaurants that sell popcorn as a shared side. The upsell is the reason they exist. A large box is usually where a concession counter's upsell happens, so it has to look generous on the counter and still feel solid in the hand once it's full. That puts the size of the box, the strength of its base and the print on its wider panels into the same conversation from the start.
Large Popcorn Box Board, Base and Volume
Large boxes are sized to the volume you want to serve, then built up in board and base to carry it.
| Attribute | Spec |
|---|---|
| Board | Heavier paperboard, food-grade |
| Base | Locking or auto-bottom |
| Inner face | Grease-proof coating |
| Capacity | Sized to your serving volume |
| Range | Several large sizes can share one order |
There's no fixed capacity, because large means different things on different menus, and one venue's large is another's medium. Tell us the volume per box, or send a tub you already use, and we work the dimensions back from that so the box matches the price you charge.
Why a Locking Base Replaces a Tuck Bottom
Most large popcorn boxes use an interlocking snap-lock base, and some use an auto-bottom instead. The reason is span. A small box can get away with a tuck bottom because the base is narrow and the load is light. Double the width, fill it with several servings, and that same tuck flap has more weight over a wider unsupported area, which is where it starts to sag and open. Scaling up the small design rarely works. A locking base folds into itself and spreads the load across the whole floor, so the box stays square when it's lifted by one side. If your large size is only modestly bigger, ask whether heavier board alone will do.
Print Across Bigger Panels
Bigger boxes give you bigger panels, and that's the main print opportunity here. Full color on coated board suits a large box well, because a wide face carries artwork a small carton can't fit, such as a film-night illustration or a combo price. One or two inks on kraft work too if the look is natural. Watch solid floods on a large box: more surface means more ink, and the cost difference grows with the panel. Interior print shows as the tub empties, which on a sharing box happens slowly, so the inside really does get seen. Skip special finishes. A box this size gets handled by several people and binned after use.
Family Tubs, Movie Nights and Combo Meals
Cinemas sell the family tub as the anchor of a sharing deal, often next to drink and candy bundles. Restaurants and burger chains add popcorn to combo meals at quick-service counters, where a large box has to sit steady on a tray alongside other items. Bowling alleys, arcades and family entertainment centers serve it to groups at a lane or table. Home movie-night kits sold by snack brands use the large box as the centerpiece of the bundle. Catering for corporate film screenings and community events takes them in bulk. In every case more than one person eats from it, so the box gets picked up, put down and passed around repeatedly.
Sizing by Volume Before You Order
Most large-box orders start with one question from us: how much popcorn goes in it? From that answer we build the dieline and confirm internal versus external dimensions in writing, so the box holds the portion you price for. Design help is free and unlimited, which helps when artwork has to stretch across a larger face. The minimum is 100 boxes per order. After you approve the proof, production takes 8–12 business days, and rush is available at extra cost, quoted upfront. Every box goes through a three-stage check before dispatch. Shipping is already in the price, however bulky the order turns out to be once it's packed.

What brands say about this box
They live there rather than here, where we can't edit them, delete them, or pick which ones you get to see. That is exactly what makes them worth reading.

How much does a large popcorn box hold?
That depends on the size you choose rather than a fixed figure. Large boxes typically hold sharing and family portions, several servings in one. Tell us the volume you want to serve and we'll size the box to it.
Will a large box hold its shape when full?
It will if the base is specified for the volume. A large box carries more weight of product and has more unsupported span, so we use a heavier board or a locking base rather than simply scaling up a small box.
Do large boxes need a stronger base?
Usually. More product weight and a wider unsupported base mean an ordinary tuck base can give way. We'd typically use a locking or auto-bottom base at larger sizes rather than simply scaling the small box up.
How long do large popcorn boxes take?
Usually 8–12 business days once you approve the proof, whatever the size. Rush production is available at an added cost, stated upfront, with shipping included.
Can I order several large sizes at once?
Yes. Running several sizes together shares setup and gives you a consistent look across your range. Tell us the volumes you want to serve and we'll match box sizes to each.
