Hanukkah Candle Boxes
Hanukkah candle boxes are built around a full eight-night set, typically 44 candles including the shamash each night, held in a long divided tray. A full set has real weight, so we specify a heavier board or reinforced base. Seasonal artwork can change year to year on the same structure. Order well ahead, since the holiday date won't move, and production time doesn't compress.

A Box Opened Eight Nights Running
A Hanukkah candle box isn't opened once and thrown away. It sits near the menorah for eight nights, and each evening someone takes out the candles for that night, starting with two and ending with nine. By the last night the tray is nearly empty, and it has been opened, pulled from and closed again more than any other candle box in a range. That shapes the brief. The candles have to stay in their rows as the tray empties, the lid has to keep closing properly after repeated use, and the box has to look good enough to leave out on a table all week. The buyers are chandlers, Judaica sellers and gift brands packaging a full holiday set.
Hanukkah Tray Dimensions, Divider Layout and Base Weight
The tray is long and low, with one slot per candle. We commonly specify heavier chipboard for the base, since a full set lifted from one end will otherwise sag in the middle.
| Attribute | Specification |
|---|---|
| Standard set | 44 candles, shamash included |
| Other counts | Laid out to your set size |
| Tray | Long, divided, one slot per candle |
| Base | Heavier board or reinforced |
| Divider spacing | Set to your candle diameter |
| Box tolerance | ±1mm |
Send us the candle length and diameter and the count you package. If you sell a smaller sampler alongside the full set, it can use the same divider spacing on a shorter tray, which keeps the two products looking related.
Why a Long Divided Tray Holds a 44-Candle Set
Hanukkah candles are thin and often colored, and packed loose in a carton they roll together, scuff and snap at the wick end. A long divided tray keeps every candle in its own slot, so the set arrives in rows and stays in rows as candles come out night by night. Laying them in a single long line, or in two rows, also lets the customer count at a glance and see that the set is complete before the holiday begins. That matters to a buyer who can't easily replace a missing candle on the sixth night. The trade-off is length: the box is long and narrow, which is worth planning for in your shelf space and your shipping cartons.
Changing Hanukkah Artwork Year to Year on One Structure
The structure can stay fixed for years while the artwork moves with your range. A new design each season means new artwork only, not a new tray or dieline. Blue and white is the traditional palette and prints accurately on coated board. Silver or gold foil suits a menorah or Star of David mark and catches candlelight on the table. A children's version, with brighter colors and a simple illustration, can sit beside the classic box in the same order. Put the set count and candle length on an end panel, where they're easy to compare between sets. Skip soft-touch here: a box handled every evening for a week will show scuffs on a velvety finish.
Hanukkah Candle Boxes for Judaica Shops, Synagogue Stores and Holiday Sets
Judaica shops sell boxed candle sets beside menorahs, dreidels and gelt, and the candles are often the first thing a customer picks up. Synagogue gift stores order small seasonal runs, sometimes with the congregation's name printed on the lid. Chandlers who pour colored or beeswax candles use the box to show the candles in their rows, sometimes through a narrow window. Brands assembling eight-night gift sets pair the candles with a menorah or chocolate in a larger outer box, with this tray inside it. Schools and community groups buy sets to hand out to families before the holiday. For nearly all of these buyers, the season is the entire sales window.
Booking a Hanukkah Run Against a Fixed Date
Hanukkah falls on a different date each year, but once the date is known it doesn't move, and neither does production time. Boxes take 8–12 business days from proof approval, tray included. Rush is available at an extra cost, quoted upfront, but it can't rescue an order placed a week before the first night, so work back from your shipping date with time for proofing and delivery to stores. With a 100-box minimum, a single-season run or a first-year test is a small commitment. Proofing is free and unlimited, so final copy can be adjusted until you're satisfied. Each box goes through a three-stage check, shipping is included, and the quote covers dies and setup with nothing added later.

What brands say about this box

How many candles does a Hanukkah box hold?
A full set for eight nights is typically 44 candles, allowing for the shamash each night. We build the tray to whatever count you package, so tell us your set size and we'll lay the dividers out to it.
Can Hanukkah boxes be printed seasonally?
Yes, and running several designs in one order shares setup costs. Many brands keep one box structure and change only the printed artwork year to year rather than paying for new tooling.
Do Hanukkah boxes need a stronger tray?
Yes, because a full 44-count set has real weight. A light tray flexes and lets candles shift against each other. We'd specify a heavier board or a reinforced base for full sets.
How long do Hanukkah candle boxes take?
Usually 8–12 business days once the proof is approved, tray included. Order early for the season — rush is available at an added cost, but the calendar isn't flexible.
Can I order Hanukkah boxes for one season?
Yes, from 100 boxes, which makes a one-off seasonal run practical. Order well ahead of the season, since production time doesn't compress even with rush.
