Kraft Lid & Tray Boxes

Kraft lid tray boxes give the two-piece build an unbleached surface that signals natural or handmade before anything is printed. Structurally they match coated board, since strength comes from caliper and build; kraft absorbs ink, so colors read muted. For natural-positioned brands kraft suits better and costs slightly less. The 100-box minimum fits artisan batch sizes.

A Lift-Off Lid in Plain Brown Board

Some ranges are already sold on plain materials: bars wrapped in paper, beans in a stamped bag, candles in unlabeled jars. For those brands, a glossy white lid would contradict everything else on the table. A kraft lid tray box keeps the two-piece build, base below and separate lid on top, and puts it on brown board that matches the rest of the range. The customer sees the lid first, so its color does part of the branding on its own. This is the folding version of the build, shipped flat and assembled at your end. It is chosen for how it looks and what it says about the product, not for extra strength, and it suits brands that would rather print less than print more.

Kraft Board, Ink Behavior and Fit for a Lid and Base

Sizing Cut to your product's dimensions

Both pieces are cut from the same unbleached board for lid and base, so the shade matches when the lid is on. Because the fiber isn't coated, ink sinks in rather than sitting on top: colors dry darker and warmer than they look on screen, and fine gradients lose definition. Plan artwork around solid shapes and one or two inks. We build the dieline from your product's measurements and confirm internal versus external in writing, so the base fits the product and the lid seats over the base walls without forcing.

When the Natural Surface Should Do the Branding

Coated board exists to make color accurate. If your brand doesn't depend on a precise color, you're paying for a surface you then cover up. Kraft makes sense when the identity is already a stamped logo, a hand-drawn mark or a plain label, and the box should look like it belongs with the product rather than in front of it. That fits gift bundles of handmade bars, where shoppers expect paper and string, not a glossy finish. It doesn't fit a brand whose packaging carries a signature shade, a photograph or a busy pattern; kraft will mute all three, and coated board is the honest answer there. Choosing kraft means accepting that the board will show through the print. For the right range, that's the point.

Stamped Foil and Blind Emboss on a Brown Lid

On kraft, the finishes that add most are the ones that don't depend on ink. Foil stamping reads sharply against brown board, and metallic on a natural lid looks deliberate rather than budget. Blind embossing raises the logo with no ink at all, so it suits brands that want texture over color. One- or two-color print works for a wordmark, a border or a line of product text, kept bold. What doesn't suit kraft is full-color photography or a large flat field of brand color, both of which print dull. The base walls can carry a simple repeat pattern in one ink, revealed when the lid comes off. Save foil for the lid top, where it's seen first, and keep the base plain if the budget is tight.

Kraft Lid and Tray Sets for Soap, Coffee and Craft Gifts

Small-batch makers are the core buyers here. Soap makers box two or three bars with a fitted insert for gift season. Roasters and tea sellers use it for coffee and tea tasting sets, with an inner bag or tin holding the product and the box doing the presenting. Candle makers put a jar candle in a kraft base with walls that stop it shifting. Craft and stationery sellers use shallow versions for sets that are laid out rather than stacked. Market-stall and farm-shop sellers like that the same box works on a counter and as a gift. What these buyers share is a range already presented in natural materials, and customers who would find a high-gloss box out of place.

What Happens Between Approval and Delivery

Once you approve the proof, production takes about 8–12 business days. If you need the boxes sooner, rush is available at an added cost that we state before you commit. Every lid and base passes a three-stage check before dispatch, so a lid that won't seat on its base or a print fault is caught by us rather than found when you open the carton. If the bulk doesn't match the approved proof, we reprint at our cost. Shipping is included in the price, and there are no die, plate or setup charges added after the quote. The minimum is 100 boxes. Design help before that proof is free and unlimited, including reworking full-color artwork into one or two inks that suit brown board.

What brands say about this box

Answers before you have to ask.

Does kraft change how a lid and tray performs?

Not structurally, since strength comes from caliper and build. What changes is the surface — kraft absorbs ink so colors read muted, and it signals natural or handmade before anything is printed.

Are kraft lid and tray boxes recyclable?

Yes. Kraft is unbleached pulp and recycles easily. Any coating or laminate can affect that depending on type, so tell us if recyclability is a claim you're making publicly.

Is kraft cheaper than coated board?

Usually slightly, since coated board is bleached and treated. The gap narrows at volume, and for a natural-positioned brand kraft is the better fit regardless of price.

What's the turnaround on kraft lid and tray boxes?

Around 8–12 business days once you approve the proof. Rush production is available at an added cost stated before you order, with shipping included.

What's the minimum on kraft lid and tray boxes?

100 boxes. Kraft suits smaller and artisan brands, and the low minimum means you can match packaging orders to your actual batch sizes rather than overbuying.
