Kraft Cookie Boxes
Kraft cookie boxes rely on a grease-proof inside face, because without it butter marks unbleached board within hours and the box looks used before the customer receives it. Kraft suits natural and homemade positioning, prints most cleanly in one or two colors, and recycles easily, though some grease coatings affect that. Reorders need no new proof once artwork is on file.

Kraft Cookie Boxes for an Unbleached, Natural Finish
Kraft is a choice about the board itself, not only its color. The pulp is left unbleached, so the box is brown all the way through, with visible fiber and a dry, matte surface. Bakers choose it when that material story matters to the customer: organic and natural-food brands, zero-waste shops and bakeries that want packaging to look as unprocessed as the cookies. It also suits buyers who simply prefer a box that doesn't look heavily printed. If you want the brown look but need full-color photography on it, that's a printed-brown job, and kraft will frustrate you.
Kraft Caliper and Grease-Proof Face Specs
Kraft cookie boxes use the board as it comes from the mill, unbleached, with one treatment added on the inside.
| Property | Kraft spec |
|---|---|
| Board | Unbleached kraft, food-grade |
| Caliper | Around 18–24pt |
| Inside face | Grease-proof coating |
| One or two colors | |
| Recyclability | Recyclable; coating type can affect it |
| Tolerance | ±0.5–1mm |
The box is grease-faced unbleached carton stock, stiff enough at that caliper to stop the base flexing under a full batch. The grease-proof face goes on the inside only, so the outer surface keeps its natural texture and takes ink the way kraft should.
Why Unbleached Board Fits a Natural Bake
A cookie sold on simple ingredients looks wrong in bright, bleached packaging. Kraft matches the product's claim: no bleaching, nothing hidden, the board left close to how it started. Customers read it that way before reading a word. In most cases it also costs less than coated board, and the natural tone hides small marks that would show on white. The structure is usually a one-piece carton folded from kraft, the plainest structure for the plainest board. The trade-off is print. Kraft limits color and detail, so a brand built on vivid artwork ends up fighting the stock.
Darker Inks and Fewer Colors on Kraft
Kraft absorbs ink and tints it. Every color prints darker than it would on white, so the design has to work with the board rather than over it. Black and deep, saturated colors hold best. One color is the natural fit, two is comfortable, and more than that starts to look crowded on a brown base. Large solid areas print less evenly than line work, so a stamp-style logo or bold type suits the stock better than flood fills. Fine serif type and hairlines soften at the edges and lose definition. Heavy finishes tend to work against the unbleached look buyers chose kraft for in the first place.
Kraft Cookie Boxes for Organic and Small-Batch Bakers
Small-batch and organic bakers are the core buyers, packing oat, spelt and ginger cookies in a box that matches their ingredients list. Zero-waste and refill shops stock local cookies in kraft because it fits the shop's own packaging. Vegan and gluten-free bakeries use kraft to set their range apart from mainstream supermarket cookies. Farm shops and delis buy kraft for house-baked lines sold beside cheeses and preserves. Wedding bakers use small kraft boxes for rustic-themed favors, often finished with twine. The fit is poor for bright children's ranges, where the subdued tone undersells a colorful product.
Adapting Your Artwork to Kraft Before Proof
Most artwork is designed on a white screen, so it needs adjusting before it goes on kraft. Our design help costs nothing and has no revision limit: we reduce colors, darken tints and thicken fine lines so the design holds up on unbleached board, then send a proof showing how it will look. Kraft runs take 8–12 business days once you've approved that proof, from a minimum of 100 boxes, and rush can be booked at an additional cost we state first. If the bulk doesn't match the proof, we print it again at our cost. Dies, plates, setup and shipping are all in the quote.

What brands say about this box
They live there rather than here, where we can't edit them, delete them, or pick which ones you get to see. That is exactly what makes them worth reading.

Will butter soak through kraft?
Not with a grease-proof face, which is what that coating exists for. Without it, butter marks kraft within hours and the box looks used before it reaches the customer.
Are kraft cookie boxes recyclable?
Yes. Kraft is unbleached pulp and recycles easily. A grease-resistant coating can affect that depending on type, so tell us if you need to meet a specific screen.
Is kraft cheaper than coated board?
Usually slightly, since coated board is bleached and treated. The gap narrows at volume. For cookies the deciding factor is usually positioning — natural and homemade, or bright and retail.
How long do kraft cookie boxes take?
Around 8–12 business days once the proof is approved. Rush is available at an extra cost we'll quote upfront, with shipping included rather than added later.
Can kraft cookie boxes be reordered quickly?
Yes. With your dimensions and artwork on file, reorders need no new proof unless something changes, and most run in about 8–12 business days with rush available.
